Please Share Your Reflections Below

This website was developed because of the enormity of the Coronavirus pandemic—particularly as its shock waves reverberate in the Learning & Development community throughout the world—to give voice to ourselves as L&D professionals and to bear witness to the impact of COVID-19.

As individuals and organizations in the learning field, we should know and be able to monitor the full extent of the effects of the Coronavirus on the people and organizations in our field—recognizing that there will be both devastation and opportunity for individuals and organizations.

c19-driven L&D Transformation

Quote

On March 18, 2020, my Chief of HR sent me (Head of L&D) an email:

The Director has asked that we conduct NEO [New Employee Orientation] via Skype. I have no idea how to accomplish this and I would appreciate your assistance. We will have 60 people in [locations A &B]. There will  15 presenters on day one and whoever Education has for day 2. Not sure if presenters need to be in one location or if the presenter can be shifted to other locations. We will also have issues with employees, like [sample population] that don’t have work stations, but we may be able to put them in a large room 10 feet apart. Where do I start?

With this, my small team of 6 began our journey towards making a difference.  Within our talented team, we have several graduate degrees in education and related fields and great diversity of skills.

In short, we've officially been "given the reins" to adopt this program as one of our own.  We've held two events now with increasing success in how we are engaging the newest members of our workforce with a shining example of what is possible under our current constraints.

A few of the changes we see on the horizon include: (a) critically validating each current presentation for their need to have precious time at the beginning of a New Hire's tenure (i.e., what statute or regulation requires your Office to address New Hires), (b) standardizing the format of each presenter for improved flow, (c) working with each Presenter to hone their presentation skills (especially important for the virtual environment), (d) coaching each presenter towards seeking results - what is the behavior change desired that cannot be accomplished in simply passing out a pamphlet?

All in all, we've seen c19 as L&D's opportunity to change culture and be the influencer that we can be in our organization.
